 Eid-ul-Fitr, also known as Eid-al-Fitr, marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting and purification. The literal meaning of Eid-ul-Fitr is the festival of breaking the fast, and due to its religious prominence, it is considered as the right time for official visits to relatives and friends. The purpose of these visits is to greet each other and distribute presents. People wear new clothes and the whole atmosphere is enveloped with happiness. Many people also call it Lesser Eid and this occasion is best utilised for charity, special prayers, etc. Considered as one of the five pillars of Islam, it is an integral part of fasting or swam commitment. It is celebrated after breaking 29 to 30 days of fasting or roze. The exact date of this festival cannot be known in advance. It is decided as per the sighting of Eid crescent moon by the religious authorities of different countries. Thus, it may be celebrated on different days in different countries. 

History Of Eid-Ul-Fitr 

According to historical accounts, the festival of Eid-al-Fitr was conceptualized by Prophet Muhammad. According to Anas, who was the companion of the great Prophet, when Muhammad arrived at Medina, he found people celebrating on two specific days where they entertained themselves by various means. Thus, the prophet announced that the Almighty himself has fixed two days for human festivities, which then, later on, came to be known as Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha. Muslims all over the world observe this festival acknowledging Allah’s reveletion of the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad. In India, this festival is celebrated amidst great pomp and show.

Eid Ul Fitr 2023 - Date, Time

Eid-Ul-Fitr is celebrated in the month of Ramadan, after completing 29 to 30 days of roze or fasting. As per the Islamic Lunar Calendar, it is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal or the tenth month. The date of this festival varies as it is dependent on the sighting of the Eid crescent moon. It is celebrated all over the world with great enthusiasm and excitement. In India, this festival is celebrated amidst a lot of pomp and gaiety.
